Committee DutiesThis committee of Classis is responsible for conducting the business of the Classis between stated sessions. According to Classis by-laws, our purview is covered in the Rules of Order Article VI, Section 5: The Pastoral Care Committee shall: a. Carry out church supervision responsibilities by periodic visits to consistories and ministers. b. Enhance the ministry of the Classis ministers and churches by helping them work together to realize their potential in fulfilling the Lord’s work. c. Supervise ministers without a charge and candidates for the ministry. d. Review the answers to the Constitutional questions submitted by the consistories of Classis churches and pursue the reasons for any negative or problematic responses. e. Review every two (2) years the credentials of Lay Preachers. These credentials should include a statement or letter verifying a course of study the Lay Preacher took along with an evaluation from the instructor(s). These credentials are to be accompanied with a letter of recommendation from the consistory of the church of which the Lay Preacher is a member. Upon a satisfactory assessment of all pertinent documents, the Lay Preacher shall receive verification from the Classis that her or his right to lead worship within the bounds of the Classis is maintained. f. Ascertain, as faithfully and completely as possible, the credibility, integrity, and faithfulness of Lay Preachers who have not been commissioned by the Classis, but who want to preach within the bounds of the Classis for an extended period of time. g. Collect, review, and evaluate all necessary documents from ministers outside the Reformed Church who wish to preach on a regular basis within the bounds of the Classis. Such documentation shall include, but not be limited to, a certificate of ordination, letters of reference from colleagues and church members, and a letter from the consistory seeking the services of said minister. |
